2010 in a nutshell: Stats & that

The year 2010 is almost over, feels like it had just started. We achieved somethings, we lost somethings.. While mostly we just wasted the earth's resources.. Be as it may, the year is done with.

Following are some global events (mostly disasters) and stats for the year:



JANUARY


January 12 – A 7.0-magnitude earthquake occurs in Haiti, devastating the nation's capital, Port-au-Prince. With a confirmed death toll over 230,000.. it is one of the deadliest on record.


January 25 – Ethiopian Airlines Flight 409 crashes into the Mediterranean Sea shortly after take-off from Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport, killing all 90 people on-board.


FEBRUARY


February 12–28 – The 2010 Winter Olympics are held in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada.


February 27 – An 8.8-magnitude earthquake occurs in Chile, triggering a tsunami over the Pacific and killing 497. The earthquake is one of the largest in recorded history.


MARCH


March 23 – The ROKS Cheonan, a South Korean Navy ship carrying 104 personnel, sinks off the country's west coast, killing 46. In May, an independent investigation blames North Korea, which denies the allegations.


APRIL


April 13 – A 6.9-magnitude earthquake occurs in Qinghai, China, killing at least 2,000 and injuring more than 10,000.


April 20 – The Deepwater Horizon oil platform explodes in the Gulf of Mexico, killing eleven workers. The resulting oil spill, one of the largest in history, spreads for several months, damaging the waters and the United States coastline, and prompting international debate and doubt about the practice and procedures of offshore drilling.


MAY


May 12 – Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 crashes at runway at Tripoli International Airport in Libya, killing 103 of the 104 people on board.


May 22 – Air India Express Flight 812 overshoots the runway at Mangalore International Airport in India, killing 158 and leaving 8 survivors.


JUNE

June 9 – Ethnic riots in Kyrgyzstan between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks results in the deaths of hundreds.


June 11 - July 11 – The 2010 FIFA World Cup is held in South Africa, and is won by Spain.


JULY


July 8 – The first 24-hour flight by a solar powered plane is completed by the Solar Impulse.


July 25 – Wikileaks, an online publisher of anonymous, covert, and classified material, leaks to the public over 90,000 internal reports about the United States-led involvement in the War in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2010.


July 29 – Heavy monsoon rains begin to cause widespread flooding (pictured) in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Over 1,600 are killed, and more than one million are displaced by the floods.


AUGUST


August 10 – The World Health Organization declares the H1N1 influenza pandemic over, saying worldwide flu activity has returned to typical seasonal patterns.


SEPTEMBER


September 28 – Seven people are reported to have been killed and around 100 are missing after a landslide in Oaxaca, Mexico.


OCTOBER


October 13 – Thirty-three miners near Copiapó, Chile, trapped 700 metres underground in a mining accident in San José Mine, are brought back to the surface after surviving for a record 69 days.


October 22 – The International Space Station surpasses the record for the longest continuous human occupation of space, having been continuously inhabited since November 2, 2000 (3641 days).


October 25 – An earthquake and consequent tsunami off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, kills over 400 people and leave hundreds missing.


NOVEMBER


November 4 – Aero Caribbean Flight 883 crashes in central Cuba, killing all 68 people on board.


November 28 – WikiLeaks releases a collection of more than 250,000 American diplomatic cables, including 100,000 marked "secret" or "confidential".


DECEMBER


December 2 – NASA announces the discovery of new arsenic-based life form in California.

So, its been a good year, better than 2009 at least. That year sucked to the core. 2010, however, proved good for many of us, we progressed through our lives, getting closer to the overall objective. And if somebody still stands where he stood at the beginning of 2010, its time let go.. Let go of whatever you are holding on to and move on. A new year means new beginnings, new commitments and all that shit. Technically, its only a change of calendar, the sky won't turn green. But, nothing external will affect you either, its a spark within that'll fire up your life and make your journey warmer.

Forget about the past, forget about the people, their babble. Forget about what u've been led to believe. Re-create your beliefs. Somebody once said: "Learn from others' mistakes, life is too short to make your own". Well, i say FUCK that somebody. Nobody learns until he makes one himself. So commit mistakes, learn from them and build your own opinions. Fuck those aunties & uncles who have an opinion and a lecture prepared for everything, they don't know what the fuck they are talking about. Take risks, follow your fuckin' dreams and wishes, and re-define your life.

And i must not forget to mention that 2011 doesn't mean one year to the so called apocalypse. Trust me, 2012 won't be the end of the world. It can't be, if it were, we wouldn't have predicted it. Well, even if i'm wrong nobody'll live to play the right or wrong games. Anyway, we are not gonna live this year assuming its our second last. Instead, we'll assume its our last year, personally. Think of 2011 as your last year and live it your way, not as just another routine year. And do all you can do with your life. Seek forgiveness, from your friends, your parents, from Allah. Repent all those sins, intentional and unintentional. We are no scholars, but if we can commit to just daily prayers and haqooq-e-ebaad, it oughta give us a clear conscience. And do all those little things, that you've always wanted to do, that you've been procrastinating all along.. Redeem yourselves.

Start living, don't die before you actually die. Stop whining about the little things. Coz Everyday, everyday above the ground, is a good day.
Life has no remote.... get up and change it yourself..


I really gotta lay low off the weed.

Agent 0.6 was kind enough to go on a road trip and gather comments and opinions on the year 2010;

Agent 0.6 secretly followed $aigol on King Saud St. $aigol was out for a walk, of which he was starved and was headed for Bayt Al-Shawaya, Agent 0.6 kept on track and followed his trail to the restaurant. After the last encounter with $aigol, Agent 0.6 wasn't exactly comfortable confronting $aigol, but the job needed to be done. He gulped down the fear and entered the restaurant and approached $aigol, who was seated at the far end. To the Agent's surprise $aigol smiled as he saw him close in on him.

Agent 0.6 now stood silent at the majlis' end, trying to gather the words when $aigol broke the ice: "Well, Well, Well, We meet again..."

Agent 0.6: "..Duty calls"

$aigol: "What can i do you for?"

Agent 0.6: "I have a few questions for you"

$aigol: "Why don't you join me? Take off your shoes, step up.." 

Agent 0.6 hesitated, but then realized he was starving as well.
The waiter arrived, $aigol turned to Agent 0.6: "What are you having?"
Agent 0.6: "Khhhhubsa"
Waiter: "Maafi mojood"
$aigol: "La La ya Tayyib, Yani Kabsa"
Waiter: "Na'am"

A few minutes later, after harassing that Kabsa, Agent 0.6 took a sigh and stretched his legs, $aigol lighted up a dunhill and asked: "So what exactly is it that you have to ask me?"

Agent 0.6: "Well, Tell me about this year and how its been for you.."

$aigol: "Wellllll, this years been quite awesome.. Got a lot of stuff, it was a money in the bank year.. Made many friends, lost none.. And not a single trip to the jail this year..Phew!"

Agent 0.6: "Anything bad about the year?"

$aigol took a long puff and exhaled the words: "Hmm, nothing throughout, but the Ministry of Bahrain surely Fucked up. My Degree completion was due in August 2010 but due to the ministry's limitations.. MuthaF%*#&!"

"Anyhoo, a good year generally, I think 2010 marks the year i started living life my way. Things are finally getting in order, Life is starting to happen Alhamdulillah"...After a brief pause, $aigol said: "Now if you'll excuse me I have to use the restroom.."

$aigol returned shortly and discovered Agent 0.6 had escaped the scene.
Waiter: "Ya habibi. Bill! Jeeb Fulooooos!!"
$aigol, realizing what had just happened, "Why Adnaaaan, Whyyyyyy!" 




Agent 0.6 arrived Toronto just after sunrise, it was chilly he wished he could go warmer places especially at this time of the year, but this interview couldn't have be skipped, he knew that The Addict's opinion was vital to the story.
  
After some hassle with the directions, Agent 0.6 found the Addicts's Lair. He examined the gloomy building, base to top. There was something weird about it.. Something that made it stand alone in the whole of Toronto. 

Agent 0.6 entered regardless of the bad feeling he was starting to feel about the whole thing, he ran up a few flights of stairs until he reached the apartment 666. The numbers were marked in coca-cola. After some troubling second thoughts, Agent 0.6 finally mustered up the courage to knock. He knocked several times, there was no answer.. He knocked harder and the door swiftly flung open.. 

A ghastly sight came into view. There was smoke all over the hall. As Agent 0.6 advanced further, the sound of coca-cola cans crushing under his feet filled the dark silence, they carpeted the entire apartment. No sign of the Addict yet. 

After the Agent was done searching the kitchen and the bathroom he headed towards the bedroom. The door was halfway open, Agent 0.6 pushed it all the way and entered the room and a horrible sight came into view. The Addict was lying on a sofa facing the Agent, he was vibrating. It took a while for the Agent to figure out the scene. The Addict was jerking off furiously. In his vacant hand, the Addict held an ancient sketch of a Greek goddess. Thats right, The Addict was pleasuring himself to a barely visible sketch from the 18th century. Somebody sure lost his mind along the year, Agent 0.6 thought to himself.. 

The Agent cleared his throat to get The Addict's attention. The Addict didn't bother and kept on until he was done with, in about 15 seconds. He looked up at the Agent with a naughty smile. If Agent 0.6 didn't know any better he could've sworn he saw the Devil himself in those red glaring eyes.

The Agent finally broke the silence: "I've traveled this far to your land, i need to get some answers from you"

The Addict: "Behold traveler, for thy hath come to the right place..."

Agent 0.6: "Really? I mean i don't t....."

The Addict jumped at the Agent and locked the Agent's neck in his vicious grasp. The Agent tried to break free, but The Addict's power was strangely inhuman. The Addict whispered in the Agent's ear "Don't you see traveler, the prophecy is to be fulfilled, this is destiny..."

Agent 0.6 trying hard catch his breath, managed to utter: "OK man, whatever u say, let's just sit down and discuss this.."

The Addict let go of Agent 0.6 and the Agent dropped hard on the floor, Addict: "Hurry up traveler, i am afraid i don't have much time left.."

Agent 0.6: "Why d..."

Addict: "There is no time for these questions, you must hurry up!"

Agent 0.6: "Right, I have to ask you about this year; 2010.. What can you tell me about it?"

Addict: "The Era Y2K10 was a different one..the shadows from the hell are now even closer to us, W.."

Agent 0.6: "I'm sorry to interrupt you, but if you could just tell me how it was for you, personally, i'll be out of your nose in no time.."

The Addict reached into his robe's left pocket and pulled out a $1 bill, rolled it like a pro, and snorted the hell out of the coca-cola bottle that lay on the side table..
"Well, the year sure fucked me financially. Every time i bet on those soccer games i lost.. Not cricket though, that turned out ok almost every time.."

Agent 0.6: "Now what would the best thing that happened to u?"

The Addict: "Well, my work, i had four female colleagues.."

Agent 0.6 with a grin: "Niiice.."

The Addict: "Yea, one of them was black, one was old enough to die any day, and two were mullas.."
"I'd listen to them discuss "Sari's" all day long everyday..."

Agent 0.6: "Hold on, hold on.. How is that the best thing?"

The Addict: "Holy shit, you're right!" Throwing the coke bottle at the window right behind the Agent "Those fucking bitches.." 

Agent 0.6 practically jumed from his seat: "Whoa! Easy Addict.."

The Addict took a deep sigh, "Well, i think the best thing was getting the scholarship, worth $2000"

Agent 0.6: "Alritteeee, now what can u say generally about the year?"

The Addict: "The year started fine, and turned out to be the best year.. It was all too good, until the start of this month.. Now, I have lost everything.."

Agent 0.6: "Do u have any clue as to what might have went wrong?"

The Addict: "Clue? I know the whole deal. At the start of the year i summoned a demon from hell, i was tired of my worthless life, i made a deal with the demon, it would make me happier and in turn i'd give it my soul... The demon promised a happy 10 years, but it didn't keep its word, its been only a year and its back for my soul.. Its gonna take me away, but thats alright.. I brought this upon myself.. I deserve this.."

Agent 0.6: "I am sure you are watching a lot of horror movies, its just bad luck, nothi...."
The Agent's voice was cut off by a tear in the ceiling.

The Addict: "If I were you, I'd leave... Now!!!"

The tearing became louder, something or someone was ripping it apart. Agent 0.6 couldn't believe his eyes. All the facts asked him to get real, but he trusted his sight. He knew something evil lie above and was trying to reach down. All these thoughts spinning through his head came to a halt as the ceiling split open and a black some-like creature descended. The Addict's eyes were red with hellfire, he spoke his last words: "Run Agent!" The Demon turned towards the Agent. Agent 0.6 felt the indescribable fear as he faced the Demon, staring at the Demon's coal-black eyes. He couldn't think of anything sensible enough, he just made a run for the window and jumped out.. 

..Agent 0.6 hasn't returned yet.
